OSLO PHIL DEBUT
Francesca Dego is set to make her debut with the Oslo Philharmonic on September 3rd, stepping in for Veronika Eberle. The concert also marks a reunion with conductor Dalia Stasevska, with whom Dego previously recorded the Brahms and Busoni concertos for Chandos. This time, she’ll be performing the Sibelius Violin Concerto.
There’s a nice historical twist to the occasion: Dego will be playing the Burmester Stradivarius, courtesy of J & A Beare — an instrument once owned by Willy Burmester, the violinist Sibelius originally dedicated the concerto to. Burmester, however, backed out over a dispute about scheduling and money, leaving Viktor Nováček to give the ill-fated first performance instead.
